Go Debt Free UK — Last updated: June 2026
Who We Are
Go Debt Free UK operates as an introducer and lead generation business. We connect individuals seeking information about debt solutions with FCA-authorised and regulated debt advice firms and licensed Insolvency Practitioners who can assess their circumstances and provide regulated advice.
We do not provide financial advice, debt advice, or recommendations ourselves. We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Our role is limited to receiving your enquiry and passing it to an appropriately regulated firm.
For the purposes of UK data protection law, Go Debt Free UK is the data controller in respect of the personal information you provide through our website and enquiry forms.
Go Debt Free UK is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. You can verify our registration at ico.org.uk.
What Personal Information We Collect
We collect personal information that is necessary to process your enquiry and introduce you to the right regulated firm. We only collect what is genuinely needed — we do not collect data for the sake of it.
Identity Information
Examples: Your full name, date of birth, and where necessary, identity document details such as a passport or driving licence number.
We collect this to confirm who you are and to pass accurate information to the regulated firm handling your introduction. This information is required and cannot be omitted.
Contact Details
Examples: Your phone number, email address, and postcode.
This is used so the regulated firm we introduce you to can contact you directly to discuss your debt options. This information is required.
Financial Information
Examples: Your approximate total debt, monthly income, monthly surplus income, whether you own property, and the number of creditors you owe.
This helps us identify which debt solutions may be relevant and is shared with the regulated firm for their own full assessment. More detailed financial information — such as full income and expenditure breakdowns, bank statements, or credit history — may be requested separately by the firm you are referred to, not by us. This information is required.
Employment Information
Examples: Your employment status — whether you are employed, self-employed, retired, receiving benefits, or unemployed.
This helps identify which debt solutions may be accessible to you, as eligibility criteria differ depending on income source. This information is required.
Household Information
Examples: Your marital status, number and approximate ages of dependants, and whether you rent or own your home.
This context is used when assessing which type of debt solution may be appropriate for your circumstances and is shared with the firm we introduce you to. This information is required.
Health Information
Examples: Physical or mental health conditions that may be relevant to your financial situation or that indicate you may need additional support.
This is classified as special category data under UK GDPR and is only ever collected with your explicit consent. You may choose not to share this information and it will not affect your ability to use our service.
Technical and Website Data
Examples: IP address, browser type, pages visited, time spent on our site, and cookie data.
We collect this automatically through standard website analytics tools, including Google Analytics, to understand how our website is used and to improve it. This data does not identify you personally. See our Cookie Policy for full details.
How We Collect Your Information
We receive your personal information in the following ways:
- Directly from you — when you complete an enquiry form on our website, call us, or contact us by email or any other means.
- Automatically via our website — through cookies, analytics tools, and standard browser data when you visit godebtfree.co.uk.
- From third parties acting on your behalf — for example, if a debt adviser, carer, or family member contacts us on your behalf with your prior knowledge and consent.
We do not purchase personal data lists or collect your information without your knowledge.
External websites: Our website may contain links to third-party websites, including the regulated firms we work with. This Privacy Policy applies only to godebtfree.co.uk. When you navigate away from our site, the privacy policy of that third-party website will apply. We recommend reading their policy before submitting any personal information to them.
How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information only for the purposes set out below. Our primary legal basis for processing is legitimate interests — specifically, our interest in connecting people who need debt help with the regulated firms best placed to assist them. Where we rely on consent, we will always make this clear and obtain your explicit agreement before proceeding.
To process and forward your enquiry. When you submit an enquiry through our website, we use your information to identify which regulated debt solutions firm is most appropriate and to pass your details to them so they can make contact. This is the core purpose of our service.
To operate and improve our website. We use anonymised technical data — such as page views, session duration, and browser type — to understand how visitors use our website and to improve its content, performance, and usability. This data does not personally identify you.
To comply with legal and regulatory obligations. We may process your information where required to comply with applicable laws, respond to regulatory investigations, or cooperate with law enforcement where legally required.
To send you relevant service communications. We may contact you in connection with your enquiry — for example, to confirm that your details have been passed on. These communications are part of our service and are not classed as marketing.
For direct marketing, with your consent only. We will only send you marketing communications if you have given us explicit consent to receive them. You can withdraw that consent at any time.
Who We Share Your Information With
Go Debt Free UK does not sell your personal data to unrelated third parties. However, sharing your information with certain organisations is essential in order to deliver the service you have requested.
FCA-authorised debt solutions firms. When you submit an enquiry, your personal information is passed to one or more FCA-authorised debt advice firms or licensed Insolvency Practitioners. This is the primary purpose of our service — without this transfer, we cannot connect you with the regulated help you need. The firm we introduce you to will contact you directly, conduct their own full assessment, and provide regulated advice in their own name. They are separately responsible for their own data processing once they receive your information.
Service providers who support our operations. We may share limited data with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in running our business. This includes web hosting providers, analytics platforms, email delivery services, and technical support companies. All such providers are bound by data processing agreements and are only permitted to use your data for the specific purpose we have instructed.
Credit reference agencies. In some circumstances, and with your knowledge, your information may be disclosed to credit reference agencies such as Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion for the purpose of identity verification or financial assessment. If this applies, the regulated firm handling your case will explain this to you in full. You can read more about how credit reference agencies use personal data in the Credit Reference Agency Information Notice (CRAIN), available at transunion.co.uk/crain, equifax.co.uk/crain, and experian.co.uk/legal/crain.
Legal and regulatory authorities. We may disclose your information to law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, or government authorities if we are legally required to do so, or if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Go Debt Free UK, our users, or others.
Authorised representatives. If you appoint a person to act on your behalf — such as a family member, carer, or legal representative — we will share information with them only with your explicit, documented consent. You may withdraw this consent at any time.
Once you are introduced to a regulated debt solutions firm, that firm becomes a separate data controller in respect of the information they hold about you. Please read their own privacy policy to understand how they will use your data going forward.
Our Legal Basis for Processing
Under UK GDPR, we are required to have a valid legal basis for every type of personal data processing we carry out. The legal bases we rely on are:
- Legitimate interests — our core purpose of connecting people with regulated debt help, and our interests in operating and improving our website. We have assessed that this processing is proportionate and does not override your rights.
- Consent — for direct marketing communications, and for processing any special category data such as health information. Consent is always freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous, and can be withdrawn at any time.
- Legal obligation — where we are required by law to process or disclose your information, for example in response to a court order or a request from a regulatory authority.
- Vital interests — in rare circumstances where processing is necessary to protect someone’s life or safety.
Your Rights Under UK GDPR
UK data protection law gives you a number of important rights in relation to your personal information. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in the Contact Us section below. We will respond to all requests within one calendar month.
Right to Access. You can request a copy of all personal data we hold about you (a Subject Access Request). Most requests are free of charge.
Right to Rectification. If any information we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you can ask us to correct it.
Right to Erasure. In certain circumstances, you can ask us to permanently delete your personal data. Some information may need to be retained for legal or regulatory reasons even after a deletion request.
Right to Restrict Processing. You can ask us to pause how we use your data — for example, while you contest its accuracy or while we assess an objection you have raised.
Right to Data Portability. Where technically feasible, you can ask us to provide your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, or to transfer it directly to another organisation.
Right to Object. You can object to us processing your data where we rely on legitimate interests. If you object to direct marketing, we will stop immediately. For other processing, we will assess your objection and respond within one month.
Rights Regarding Automated Decisions. You have the right not to be subject to a decision made solely by automated means if it significantly affects you. You can request human review of any such decision and ask us to explain how it was reached.
Right to Withdraw Consent. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of any processing carried out before withdrawal. Note that withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide the service.
If your request is complex or we receive a high volume of requests, we may extend our response time by a further two months. We will always notify you promptly if this is the case.
How We Keep Your Data Safe and How Long We Keep It
Security
We take the protection of your personal information seriously and use appropriate technical and organisational measures to safeguard it against unauthorised access, loss, alteration, or disclosure. Our measures include:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS) across our website
- Access controls limiting who within our organisation can view your data
- Regular review and testing of our security arrangements
- Secure destruction of data that is no longer required
If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights or freedoms, we will notify the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) within 72 hours and inform you without undue delay, as required by UK GDPR.
You also have a responsibility to protect your own account credentials and passwords. Please do not share login details and contact us immediately if you believe your information may have been compromised.
Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, and in any event for a period of up to six years following the conclusion of your case. This reflects standard financial services regulatory requirements and our obligations under applicable law. Once your data is no longer required, it is securely and permanently deleted or anonymised.
International Data Transfers
The majority of the personal information we process is stored and handled within the United Kingdom. Where we use third-party service providers that operate outside the UK, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place — for example, through the use of UK International Data Transfer Agreements (IDTAs) or equivalent mechanisms approved by the ICO. We will never transfer your personal data internationally in a way that reduces the protections you are entitled to under UK GDPR.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies — small text files placed on your device when you visit godebtfree.co.uk — to help us understand how you use our site and to improve your experience. We use both essential cookies (which are necessary for the site to function) and analytics cookies (which help us measure traffic and behaviour).
You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of parts of our website. For full details of the cookies we use and your options for managing them, please read our Cookie Policy.
Further guidance on cookies is available at aboutcookies.org and ico.org.uk.
Marketing Communications
We will only send you marketing communications — such as updates about debt solutions, news, or other relevant content — if you have explicitly consented to receive them. We will never opt you in to marketing automatically.
You can withdraw your consent to marketing at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email we send, or by contacting us at hello@godebtfree.co.uk.
We do not share your contact details with unrelated third parties for their own marketing purposes without your explicit consent. Routine service communications — such as a confirmation that your enquiry has been referred — are not classed as marketing and do not require separate consent.
Important Notices About Our Service
Go Debt Free UK is an introducer only. We do not provide debt advice, financial advice, or recommendations. When you submit an enquiry, we pass your details to an FCA-authorised and regulated debt advice firm or licensed Insolvency Practitioner. That firm will contact you, conduct their own full assessment of your circumstances, and provide regulated advice in their own capacity. Any debt solution they recommend will be subject to their own terms, fees, and eligibility criteria, which they will explain to you in full before you commit to anything.
The following points apply to any debt solution you may go on to discuss with a regulated firm:
- All debt solutions are subject to individual eligibility and creditor acceptance. Not every solution is suitable for every person.
- Formal insolvency solutions — including an IVA, DRO, and Bankruptcy — are recorded on a public register and will significantly affect your credit file for up to six years from the date the arrangement begins.
- If you enter into a debt solution, you have a statutory 14-day cooling-off period during which you can withdraw without penalty.
- Making reduced payments under a debt management arrangement may temporarily place you further into arrears with creditors.
- Debt write-off only applies on successful completion of a formal insolvency solution such as an IVA or Bankruptcy. It is not guaranteed at the point of entry.
- Your assets, including your home, may be at risk depending on the solution you enter. This will be clearly explained by the regulated firm before you proceed.
- Telephone calls with any firm you are introduced to will be recorded for quality, training, and regulatory compliance purposes.
- Free debt advice is available from MoneyHelper on 0800 138 7777 and from Citizens Advice at no cost to you. You are not obligated to use a paid service.
The information published on godebtfree.co.uk is provided for general educational purposes only. Nothing on our website constitutes financial, legal, or debt advice. You should always seek regulated advice before committing to any debt solution. Go Debt Free UK accepts no liability for any decision made in reliance on the information published on this website.
